Boston, Mass — Anyone interested in a career that is in high demand and pays well is invited to consider training as a central sterile processing (CSP) technician. Information sessions on free CSP technician training will be held online every Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. until March 15th, with the exception of December 28th.

STRIVE Boston, a program of Justice Resource Institute (JRI), and Jewish Vocational Services Boston (JVS) are collaborating to offer a free, 12-week program to train new CSP technicians, the professionals who ensure that medical equipment used by hospitals, surgery centers and outpatient clinics is clean and sterile.

Fully trained CSP technicians can expect to earn between $18 and $22 an hour to start. The training program will begin March 28 and will include 10 hours a week of hands-on training at a partner hospital, including Boston Children’s Hospital, Mass General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Faulkner Hospital, and New England Baptist Hospital.  All eligible applicants must complete required externship hours both during the training program and after graduation.

The JVS/STRIVE CPS program also will prepare participants to take the National Certified Registered Central Service Technician exam. Upon successful completion of the program, participants will receive personal job placement assistance with Boston-area hospitals. The program includes education in anatomy and physiology, which can be leveraged for greater career growth in the future.

Successful applicants will have strong English skills, a high school diploma or equivalent and be able to commit to a full-time program for 12 weeks, 400 hours of externship training and exam prep, along with proof of Covid and influenza vaccination.
